A STATE OF SPIRITUAL EMERGENCY FOLLOWING THE RIOTS

Following the catastrophic events of violence and looting across London and other UK cities, Global Day of Prayer London is urging the church to declare a state of spiritual emergency over the nation.

"No-one can be in any doubt that the anarchy and lawlessness portrayed on our TV screens graphically represent a much deeper social and spiritual condition in the nation.  The church must act now prophetically and practically to stem the diabolical forces at work in our communities and cities", said Jonathan Oloyede, convener of GDOP London.

This week and particularly on Sunday all church leaders are hereby urged to use their services and meetings to pray for the nation fervently.  Every church in the UK should pick up and carry the torch of prayer permanently.  We call on every Christian to join in small and large groups to pray anywhere and everywhere!  Every believer is strongly encouraged to immediately set their clocks and mobile phones to 12 noon daily to say the Lord's Prayer and to prayerfully reflect.

Wherever Christians are over the coming days they are urged to pray, in church, at work, on the streets, so that towns and cities will no longer be blighted by violence and rioting.  We urge that prayers be made for local councils, the police, MPs, young people, the emergency services and shop owners.

GDOP London is calling on the whole nation to unite in prayer, both now and towards the Wembley Leader's Gathering in September that has been prophetically called to "carry the torch".  The organisers hope that the true fire from heaven of the Holy Spirit will engulf our churches, cities and the whole country.
